The situation
A fiber optics equipment wholesaler needed to move their entire product catalog from a KQS.store-based shop to Magento 2. Besides the migration itself, the client needed a Magento developer to build several custom integration modules.
The problem
This wasn't a simple data dump. The client provided an Excel spreadsheet with full category mapping — old categories had to land in an entirely new structure. On top of that, all URLs had to be preserved (301 redirects) to avoid losing search engine rankings built over the years. Building modules to connect the store with an external business management system was a separate challenge altogether.
What I did
I migrated all products with full category mapping according to the client's spreadsheet. Every product landed in the right place within the new structure. I set up 301 redirects from old URLs to new ones — preserving Google rankings and making sure customers following old links don't hit a 404 error. Then I built three modules:
- Synchronization module — integration with an external business management system (including indirect integration with Subiekt). Product and order synchronization at levels that standard Magento doesn't support out of the box. This required extending both sides — the Magento module and the external system's interface.
- Tax ID verification — a module that validates tax identification numbers during customer registration. It handles two paths: Polish customers (national registry lookup) and EU customers (VIES system). The client can use free verification sources, but the module also supports paid APIs for higher reliability.
- Customer group pricing — the ability to display different prices depending on which group the logged-in customer belongs to. The wholesaler has clients buying in different volumes and on different terms — this module handles that without manually setting prices for each one.
I also implemented a custom SEO module to improve the store's search visibility.
Result
The store runs on Magento 2 with the complete product catalog transferred from the old platform. Search rankings were preserved thanks to redirects. The business management integration eliminates manual order re-entry. I still help the client with day-to-day administration and smaller fixes.
